a walk in the woods

for two hours today i made my way through the laurels preserve.  it has been almost a year since i visited; when i lived in unionville i used to run there regularly.  i just haven't made my way there, and i am glad i did today.  smelling the fallen leaves, listening to them swish beneath my feet, seeing the sweeping views and looking at life on a macro level, i walked slowly and took photos.  the beech forest there is making its way toward yellow, the smooth grey trunks reaching to the sky.  the grasses have gone brown and the milk weed has gone to seed.  the light has changed.  we are in the thick of fall and it was a much-needed respite for me today.
