waiting for sandy

hurricane sandy is slated to make life a little windy and wet over the course of the next couple of days, so this afternoon i went out in search of some fresh air.  many of the most colorful leaves have fallen from the trees, but the grey sky was the perfect backdrop to bring out the shades still left to enjoy.  i think the 45-60 mile-per-hour winds forecast will bring many of the remaining leaves down.  as i made my way back to the car the rain began in earnest and the wind was at a level reminiscent of that i experienced in the south of chile - a constant gale bringing red to my cheeks and ears.  it was nice to hear the car door closing next to me and i started warming up immediately.  i have some extra ice in the freezer, water bottles filled with enough water for a couple of days, and candles ready to go.  but mostly, i'm glad i got out there to stretch my legs and lungs with some of that nice, humid, mid atlantic fall air before being stuck inside for most of the coming days.
