weekend siesta
over the past few days i spent the most relaxing weekend in siesta key, florida. i haven't read so voraciously, napped so comfortably, ate so well, or ran so happily in a very long time. when i arrived, my back and feet hurt from a tiring week. a 9pm swim in the pool started easing it all away and by the end of my run the next morning, following a nice stretching session next to the intercoastal, all felt right with the world once again.
i never imagined i'd be a beach person, and i still know i tend to the woods and lakes, but there is something about the salt air, the soft sand, and the warm sun that really does heal.
yesterday was a gem, a perfect day in the sun at the beach followed by a sunset that really was spectacular in a way i haven't seen since i was at the lake last summer. a pair of herons stood on the beach and seemed to be watching, too, even though they were really begging for the fishermen's bait. it was a perfect set of moments in time.
