february snow

i couldn't bring myself to post a photo of the quite pretty snow we received overnight. instead i found myself drawn upward as i walked outside this evening. the blue sky was magnificent and the sun is lingering longer and longer toward the end of the day. the white blanket will disappear in a couple days' time and we'll be left with the brown grass making the entire world appear as an andrew wyeth painting. beautiful in its own way, if you ask me.

this snow should be good for a morning ski, i think. someone tracked up the field across the street and broke trail so if things freeze overnight after today's melting i suppose i'll still be able to get in a bit of a workout. last week we were lucky to have days in the 60's and the world seemed to awaken a bit - or at least, the bird world did. now the cold has returned and things are quiet again. i'd love to come across some tracks in the snow tomorrow morning. the early bird gets the worm... but i tend not to be one of those birds.

as i look back at past february entries it is around this time of the winter i begin to go stir-crazy, but this year i am just not feeling it. maybe it is my extra ten pounds keeping me warmer, maybe it is the lack of chemo, maybe it is my successful determination to keep moving outside despite the temperature and precipitation. whatever the case, i am glad to feel an affinity for february that has been missing in past years. i will be so happy for the first greens of spring, but in the meantime mother nature is treating us to beauty almost forgotten come summer.
