the goods
dear readers,
as you know, i've taken part in the livestrong challenge in each of the past two summers. two years ago i rode 40 miles just six months after having surgery to remove two-thirds of my right lung. last year i rode 100 miles while on chemo. i've met beautiful people - an ovarian cancer survivor who could run a 24-minute 5k just months after finishing treatment; a prostate cancer survivor who rode 100 miles nearly along side of me, again, just months after treatment... and in some ways, i've gotten to know myself a bit more, too. i haven't given up and i don't shy away from the hard stuff.
this year will be no different as i ride 100 more miles through the hill country near Austin, Texas, home of the Lance Armstrong Foundation. friends and family will join to cheer me on as i ride on October 25, just one day after the three-year anniversary of my diagnosis. to spend the weekend there, surrounded by amazing people and my family, is what i work for each and every day. i'll have some sweet victory as i cross the finish line once again.
i can't go it alone on my way there, though, and i am working to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation along the way. so far i have raised $2,900 and i am just about $2,000 shy of my goal of $5,000. if i can hit it, it will be my third year doing so.
i've enlisted the help of some awesome companies to set up a raffle to help me raise the last $2,000 or so. please see below for raffle details and buy lots of tickets. so far my brother is leading the charge (and he has a wedding to pay for!) so he just might win all the prizes, which wouldn't be fair at all!
