it was a great weekend. things started off right with dinner at Buddy and Rachael's house. the burgers were out of this world and the chocolate pie was the perfect blend of rich and sweet. not to mention the company, full of good stories and laughs as we caught up and also watched the Tour. if only I cold figure out how to smuggle Brian out of the house. if he ever goes missing i'm pretty sure they're going to have to search all their friends' houses. that dog is just way too cute.
on saturday rotten and i took a hike along the appalachian trail. i don't think i've been for a proper hike since costa rica - it was so nice to be out in the fresh air before it got too humid. the views were beautiful despite the summer haze. i lve looking into the distance and thinking about just how small i am in respect to the rest of the world. at those moments, i feel like i am in precisely the right place.
after recuperating with a couple of beers and some dinner at victory, we got home and jimnerd and colee were still at the house, having had spent the afternoon mowing the lawn and giving the dog some attention. jimnerd mentioned that the back garden was recovering from being pillaged by the deer. i hadn't been out to look at it all week. i haven't given up on it, but i knew it didn't need my every-day attention. since i hadn't been back there, a little flower had opened up and here it is:
just perfect!
