hot afternoon

my flower seedlings - sunflowers, dahlias, zinnias, and purple prairie coneflowers are coming along for their memorial day weekend planting.

this crabapple tree is a backyard-made hybrid, amazingly. it sprouted out of the defunct rose garden and actually has both pink and white flowers, along with green and maroon leaves.

this is one of the white crabapple trees.

the blooms smell so good.

time to plant the herbs.

hopefully i'll have some of my own spices to use in cooking by late summer. maybe sooner.

the heat doesn't bother me after being cold for months on end. i'm glad not to have to wear sweaters and scarves. well, i guess i'll be back to my usual attire tomorrow.

the favorite corners of my room. photos of some of my favorite adventures, places, and artwork from friends.

after a delicious lunch at terrain with sarah and after leaving work on monday i took some time for myself. in the course of about seven hours i smelled the apple trees blooming in the back yard, planted my little herb project, lay on my bed with the fan cooling me off while listening to bluegrass, and rode about fifteen miles with rotten in the late evening sun. we rounded out the day with dinner and ice cream, cool showers, and an episode of "mad men". it was one of the best days i've had in a long time. sun, favorite people, and black dirt under my finger nails.

Thought of you today. I had a $10 Long's rebate card and decided to invest in flower seeds. We don't have much luck with ornamentals out here, but thought what the hell it's a freebie.

We have our vegetable garden which has its own blog "Kill Your Lawn" about how we removed our front yard lawn to create a large vegetable garden.

Hope you are well.
