finally
around 3:30 today i gave in and called my nurse; turns out she wasn't in the office today. no wonder i hadn't gotten a call with my scan results.
wanting to dely the inevitable a bit, i did not immediately call my doctor. instead i called my social worker and explained my dilemma. i had my scan on wednesday and the results were supposed to be ready today but my nurse isn't in today and should i just wait until after the weekend? delay the inevitable, i tell you.
but i didn't really want to wait until after the weekend. because, even though i had remained butterfly free for most of the past three days, when the clock started striking noon today i started getting nervous. they're all huddled around a computer screen, looking at my scan, shaking their heads, hands in the pockets of their white coats, discussing what comes next.
so, my social worker told me she would page my doctor and have her call me. oh great, leave it up to me to ruin her weekend. "good luck" she said as she hung up. yes, i need some of that.
my doctor called about a half-hour later and even in saying hello sounded upbeat. exhale audibly. i already knew it was good news. and it was.
no evidence of disease. nothing is lighting up. see you for chemo next week.
it is going to be 85 this weekend and i don't have cancer. i drank a 100-calorie can of coke to kick off the celebration. look out.
