measuring up
here it is, the new year. i will post some fotos and the new england ski report later, once i have downloaded the photos from my camera to my computer at home. in the meantime, how did i do with last year's resolutions?
1. live - did this, amazingly enough, for the entire year
a. thrive - this one was challenging at times, but i think i did it. my strongest moments were probably the livestrong century, my weekend trip to italy, and the baking/cooking i accomplished in the year, among others.
b. don't be worried or scared or sad or angry - i ended up doing a little more of these things than i had hoped to.
b.1. and if i get worried or scared or sad or angry, realize why, ask for a hug or a kick in the ass or an ear to listen to it and move on back to a - i think i did an ok job at moving back to a. sometimes i faltered but it is not realistic to ask myself not to breakdown when i need to.
c. smile widely every day - done
d. take time to breathe - done
e. nap - LOVE napping. i took at least one every week.
f. eat my fruits and veggies - except for the past three weeks i was pretty good at this... though i can improve
g. love - i did more of this than i was expecting, too. though i can always get better at it.
2. be more involved in the cancer advocacy world, specifically dealing with lung cancer and young adult issues - i fell a little short here, mainly because i became involved in cancer in a "treatment" way again and in my good time i want to live life and not focus on my cancer so much. which is hard. i need to do more while i am here to do it.
3. race a mountain bike - i rode one a couple of times. i raced against myself. that's hard enough.
4. run a half marathon (Caesar Rodney in Wilmington in March?) - carboplatin stymied me, but i rode my bike 25 miles in may after four rounds of carboplatin. i also ran 2 miles on my birthday.
5. compete in a duathalon (Hibernia Park in April?) - completed a triathlon of carbo, avastin, and alimta instead.
6. start going to yoga again - october success.
7. read a book a month - at least averaged this
8. take a class - fell short here. learned lots about cancer. does that count?
9. go to a new country - italia!
10. ski more - cancer news ruined snowbird, but i got to go to the pocONOs and whistler.
11. vacation at the lake - not long enough, but loved every minute of it.
12. ride a road bike a whole lot. commute to work once a week (or more) in the summer. - i rode my bike a ton this year. i fell short on the commuting end but rode nearly every day of the week when i wasn't hung over from chemo.
13. take lots of pictures - easy
14. see lots of friends - from seattle to san francisco to trips here and there in between... i am so lucky to have so many incredible friends.
15. don't have cancer - made it 28 days on this one.
16. don't worry about having cancer - failed miserably.
17. ride a century in the Livestrong Challenge in August. (join me) - done! and had one new rider with me. hopefully more next year.
18. climb more often, inside and out. - done, though i wish i was stronger to show for it.
19. stop making lists and just do things. - i am a list maker at heart. i like crossing things off. but some of the best times were impromptu.
