stigmatized?

"While lung cancer causes one in three cancer deaths, lung cancer received less than 5 percent of the National Cancer Institute budget in 2007. Lung cancer received no funding from the Department of Defense (DOD) or Centers for Disease Control (CDC), both of which funded breast cancer research at $2.07 billion and $201 million respectively in 2007."

one of my climbing buddies is a lung cancer oncologist... you actually may know him. Anyway, we are always talking about this fact. Not only is lung cancer stigmatized from a funding perspective, but it is also stigmatized by medical students who pick which field they want to go into. It sucks and it makes me very angry. More women who never smoked die from lung cancer per year than breast cancer... yet all we want to talk about is boobs boobs boobs.

Starting in December, gyn oncology at HUP and breast cancer will be together for chemo. It's going to be a pink christmas. gag.

i'm so sorry about the pink christmas thing. there was a christmas tree in the radiology office where i used to get my CT scans in Exton... all decorated in pink ribbons and ornaments. what about all the other cancers? especially at the holidays... it made me angry.
