active weekend, even by cancer-free standards
it was a big weekend in cancer land.
on saturday jimnerd and colee joined me for a little 5K romp through kennett square. in 2004 i did the 10K and had a 7.30 or so mile average. i'm pretty sure it took us 34 minutes or so (or more) on saturday, to run 5K. not that i'm complaining. i'm just glad i didn't have to walk and that i finished. jimnerd and colee were great, cheering me on when i needed it and looking over their shoulders at me when they forgot they were running with a slowpoke. seriously, though, it meant the world to me to cross that finish line with my brother and someone who means so much to him. i hugged each of them and choked back tears. you can't be slow and a sap.
needless to say, i slept most of the rest of the day.
on sunday rotten joined me on the charity ride circuit, this time raising money for the chester county hospital's cancer center. i picked out the 25 mile ride (over the 5 mile ride, which would have made me slow and a wuss, in this instance). i knew i could ride half the distance no problem, but wasn't sure how 25 would feel. i felt pretty good, afterall, my legs are more out of shape than anything else. it was a nice morning for a ride - the humid, but cool, air suited me well and i breathed ok. the course was kind of hilly, and the hills are what do a number on my psyche, but all in all i really enjoyed myself and the company. it was a great way to spend a sunday morning. i hope to get in more rides like it as summer unfolds.

i'm pretty sure the owner of this bike, along with said bike, probably with kickstand still in the down position, passed me on the hill up birmingham road. and rotten claims to be surprised by my competitive side. it certainly still lingers despite the fact i'm probably the only one who was out there with (a) lung cancer while on (b) chemo with (c) 1 1/3 lungs. details, details.

now i find myself in squaw valley, ca, for business. after three mornings of waking up early i am really looking forward to bed tonight and kind of sleeping in (if you count the time change) tomorrow.
