couch surfing

this is what skiing at snowbird is looking like today...

it is a rather funny place to be stuck. up in the mountains. road is closed (read: no one else can come up here and play in the snow that is falling at 2-4" per hour). wind whipping visibility down to vertigo-inducing and frostbite-forming nothing. with the wind, the lifts are closed, well, all but a couple of the ones that feed the bottom of the mountain.

two years ago we were in a similar spot; interlodged, which means we can't leave our house. this time we aren't interlodged, per se, but really, the conditions and lack of lifts are keeping us pinned down. two years ago, though, it was a bluebird day and the lifts were turning and we were just stuck here in what i am pretty certain would be defined as hell on earth - tons of snow and we couldn't get to it because patrol was busy bombing the slopes above our house. say what you will about a multi-mil condo being hell...

so today's activities have included at least one game of chess, lots of reading, a few returns to bed, and lots of eating. a couple of hardy souls have ventured out to walk around in it; i am saving my energy for the slopes. i soaked in a nice shower and have done some reading and dozing. we're hoping to get out by this afternoon to play in the still-accumulating goodness that is pounding the window behind me.

one thing's for sure, though. tomorrow is going to be epic.
