thanksgiving round one
"hand me the world on a silver platter and what good would it be with no one to share with... no one who truly cares for me?"
i laughed so hard last night my ears got hot. i found myself crying into my napkin with laughter, unable to breathe. i could only mutter little sighs of hilarity and utter these words: "my ears are hot". then i began fanning them with said napkin. holy shit. they were on fire. the thing is, i love laughing. and once i get going, really get going, like i did last night, i cannot be counted on to make any sense. apparently i had managed to squeeze too much blood into the tiny capilaries of my ears, and they felt like they were on fire. ultimately i regained control of my situation and the laughter subsided and i was able to eat some seconds of the second-annual serving of sam's stellar sweet spuds. holy shit again. it doesn't get better than any of the above. the fourth annual thanksgiving at katy and jason's; sweet potatoes with coffee cake worthy crumbs on top; pineapple stuffing; being so full i can't get up from the table; surrounded by friends in a room made hot by the laughter and obscene amounts of food and wine. we have it so good. i have it so good. i'd be nothing without all these people in my life. near or far, seen lately or seen rarely at all.
in other news, it is snowing somewhere to the north of here today. i get a little jealous when i know it is snowing so close by and we don't get to see the flakes here. i know it will come in due time but it would be a real treat to have some of the white stuff falling down today. it just feels like it out there. i walked outside at 8:00 this morning to scope out what the day might hold for me. i really want to go for a bike ride. you see, two sets of the windows in my bedroom are currently affording views of spectacular yellow hued maples. they are so brilliant that each morning when i wake up i am convinced it is a beautiful sunny day outside. then i put on my glasses and realize there is grey sky as the backdrop; today i was really hoping for sun. so i went outside anyway, perhaps to find myself some warmish weather or at least not damp air... au contraire. cold and damp. and breezy. so i opted instead to do some laundry and maybe it would warm up a little outside; no, in fact, it started drizzling. i don't like to let weekend days pass without some outdoor endeavour both days, so i opted for another trail run this morning. it was beautiful. just me, my steps through the leaves crunching and shuffling underfoot, and my breaths, steaming out from my mouth as i exhale. my thoughts wander to and fro - christmas gifts i want to buy, chores i should really take care of, how am i really feeling this morning on this run, are these hills really getting easier, my hair itches under this hat, i need to get my car inspected blah blah blah. today i spotted some cardinals flying around, nestling amongst the bittersweet. otherwise it was quiet. the weather must have everyone inside.
which is where i plan to be the rest of the day. inside. maybe a nap under a warm blanket. some book reading. laughing so hard last night tired me out and i still have another thanksgiving to go!
