hello liz's brain?

this is liz's body. uh, time to slow down. seriously.

and that's pretty much the conversation taking place within my skin on friday as i left work. i was carrying what felt like three or four elephants' worth of stress in my shoulders. i needed nothing more than to sit and decompress from an unexpectedly busy and somewhat stressful week. i was planning on heading to hagerstown early, early saturday morning to watch the cx races and heckle. next on the itinerary would be camping and biking and four wheeling. sunday night i'd arrive home from another weekend away and gear up for the coming week. another busy one, most likely. tis the season. this time last year i had my life pretty much booked up through february. it gets to be that way. of course, that all went straight out the window, and while i wish it were so, i can't exactly say i eschewed my well-planned plans for something fun. so, it is fitting that once again i am slowly seeing the calendar fill in and time prioritized by the worky work. contrary to what the weather is saying, we're gearing up for a long, cold winter. and my mind was feeling 90% up for everything falling into place and for me to be out and about and doing one thing after another. pair the work with the fun and fresh air and all will be ok. in my mind, i am feeling stronger than i can remember feeling. stronger, for sure, than this time last year. and because of that, my mind says, go! go! go!
thank goodness for my body speaking up. on friday, it was saying slow! slow! slow! mind and body have been on the same page for the past few months, it is only recently that they've been in cahoots. saturday morning the body won. the 6am alarm to wake up and hit the road was greeted by me sleeping straight through it, something i only do when pretty much exhausted. i woke up confused around 6:30 and sat up. body wins. plans aborted. i felt badly about this development, but i'm not at a point where i can push, push, push. as soon as i start doing that, bad things start to happen. like elephants on shoulders and poor sleep and unrest. things no one needs, but i really don't need them.
feeling better today, more back to myself. body and mind are a loving pair once again. rested and fed and relaxed. i never used to listen so intently to myself. i liked to ignore it. i can't quite afford to ignore it yet. i don't want to get behind again. just when it feels like things are going ok. i'd like to keep it this way for a while.
