jean-etics
this is my second-favorite pair of jeans. yesterday morning, in between loads of laundry and re-laundry (thanks to an unseen cut on my hand that conveniently soiled my freshly-laundered sheets), i started going through a couple of drawers i haven't gone through since i moved back into the country estate. i found these, my second-favorite jeans, and hesitated for a moment. they are arguably the most comfortable pair of jeans i've ever owned, and they've been that way since day one. i probably wore them way too much, and washed them not enough, and at times they might have gotten up and walked around the house on their own. finally, one day, i was putting them on while doing what i used to do best, multitasking (i think the drugs friend my brain and i just can't get the hang of it again) and there went part of my foot somehow right through the upper-ass of them. the hole sits just low enough to avoid being covered by anything but a long sweater. so i've used them for around-the-house days, and, admittedly, a couple of quick trips to get gas or rent a movie (my mother won't be surprised, don't worry). well, the other day i wondered whether it was time to rid myself of their presence. i had almost forgotten they existed, along with a couple of other jeans i hang onto in case i ever go back to being a hippie (one might argue i'm already there) who works in the woods and wears jeans with holes, paint, concrete, and of course poison ivy all over them. it is a big decision to make, but i am trying to downsize a bit and making an attempt to not acquire too much stuff (which is why i want to buy a road bike... which is really a whole other problem), so the new me should have taken one look at them and thrown them right out. but i couldn't. i hesitated, and then the buzzer went off on the dryer. i pulled the now really clean sheet from the dryer and then the phone rang and then i realized i was running late for my afternoon of cursing anthony morrelli and there the jeans are, still in my life and back in the drawer. soon it will be cool enough to warrant wearing a long sweater and those babies will be the first thing i grab to wear. being sick for all of fall, winter, and spring makes going through your clothes almost as much fun as shopping for them in the first place!
oh, and PS to mr. rotten and a certain packers fan, left-over apples were employed to constitute the main ingredient in an apple-pear crisp, with oats, sunflower, pumpkin and flax seeds to boot. it was stellar with some vanilla ice cream. no pictures, sorry.
