131
post # 131 comes at the tail end of a near-perfect summer weekend. i have the casa to myself these days and i thoroughly enjoyed being a homebody (in no way should that be read as "dork") for much of the weekend.
i've put in some quality miles out at the laurels in the past few days. with a couple of rainy/questionable afternoons at the end of the week, i opted to leave my bike at home and head out on foot. it had been a while since my last run - probably two weeks or so, considering the last time i ran was out at the lake. i've had a much more difficult time readjusting to running than riding so i've been avoiding it, content to roll around and see more of the countryside and cover more miles. my runs at the end of last week reminded me that i am a runner at heart. there is nothing quite like the quiet of a trail run, just my feet stomping the ground below, splashing through mud puddles, my mind happily lost in thought, reorganizing itself, without the distraction of cars and hay trucks and other worthwhile distractions while on the bike. i had less trouble with my breathing and still felt like i had miles left once i'd returned to the car. not wanting to push it, i let good enough alone and was propelled right into the weekend.
since i've been out and about the past few weekends i took this one to do some relaxing, sleeping in, feet on the coffee table for some tv and reading. yesterday was an absolutely spectacular day here and i was happy to get out early, meeting wendel for breakfast, where i housed three pretty large pancakes in my never-ending battle to gain weight, and farmers market action, where i bought myself some coorful flowers and treated us to homemade root beer. the air was so clear and cool i actually wore a light hoodie and got a little chilly when driving down the road with the windows open. it was a nice reminder that fall is around the corner. i'm not quite ready for it yet, but mornings like yesterday are welcomed anytime.
yesterday afternoon brought - wait for it - my first haircut (!) since the chemo worked its wonders. for those of you who've seen me lately you might be wondering, "what hair, exactly, did you have cut?" but trust me, there was a good 1/2 inch of hair taken off all around. it was beginning to get a little unruly around the edges and i needed to have it taken care of. i'll let it grow a while longer then head back in. i felt a little ridiculous, seeing all the women with their long hair, and i felt like i should have a sign around my neck that read "i just really, really want a haircut" to explain myself. it was SO much better than going in to have my head shaved. as i was told when i left - i'm going to try to hold onto it this time.
i enjoyed a rare chance to hang out with ms. maddy last night, as she told me her four-year-old stories of plays watched (alexander is not not not not going to move), stuffed animal ettiquite (no, it doesn't have a name because it isn't REAL), and late night wonder (isn't it so great to be outside at night?!). it made my day. watching her run in and out and in and out of the house, back and forth to the swings, grabbing other toys, snacking on goldfish... it made me content and exhausted at once. and made me wish for that kind of energy again!
so. today i stocked up on fresh fruits and veggies and a few other goodies and now i am set for another week. a trip to the city is in store, maybe a run, and of course a couple of rides. summer time and the living's easy. so good.

I thought plush toys has a soul so they always got names.
I used to reorganize my crayon box so that one side was warm hues of each color and the other side cool hues of the same colors. Then I would take each one and sharpen it and clean off the paper wrapper so it looked as good as possible.
I also made confetti as a 7 year old for my mother's birthday by ripping up paper and then coloring each piece individually instead of coloring the whole page first before I made it into tiny pieces.
Obviously my mother never complained about such behaviors as it kept me quiet.
