day off

my day off was more of a day on. my other job. my part time full time all the time job.

ah. driving to penn on a friday. no traffic. consistently, this is the day to head into center city during rush hour. i think now, with the nice weather in town, even more people are sneaking their fridays "working from home". yeah, right.

anyway. today wasn't a big day, just routine. i had some blood drawn for my usual chemo check-up tests and also for some lipid and thyroid tests the cardiologist had ordered. i learned that the lab technician who usually draws my blood is graduating from nursing school this mother's day. she is also a mom, and let me tell you, she could be my nurse any day. patient, caring, insightful, and quietly confident, i have admired her since i met her. there is a calm about her that has settled my quaking nerves on more than one occasion. i am so happy for her. what an incredible accomplishment.

my bloodwork took a looooong time to come back in. in the meantime, we met with my nurse practicioner and went over how i've been feeling. and the truth came out. last week, ugh. this week, when i stop to think about it, i felt like myself. a little tired. but on my way to normal. fantastic.

my white cell count is low, which was expected, but other than my instructions to be cautious and not to make out with any boys with pneumonia, i don't have to do anything for a while. a while. a month. more.

i have to schedule a ct scan for june 18 and i will learn the results on the 20th. is it gone? is it in my liver? back in my lung?

until then, save for a meeting with my radiation oncologist and cardiologist, no cancer. and no hospitals. knock on wood, but i think i'll make it.

it is like, for months, i've been on a ride that i was repeatedly asking to stop. just stop. i need a break. and, somehow, suddenly, it is time for a break. the emotions roll along, happy, refreshed, tired, nervous, confused. but now that i'm feeling better i am leaning more toward happy.

fantastic.
