totally tubular...still

dang. i still have the tube. it is still venting off some air from either my lung or my empty space that used to hold my lower and middle lobes. the doctor doesn't feel that strongly that it is the latter, so i am stuck with my friend the chest tube for the weekend. we'll have another go at it on monday.
funny thing about the chest tube. it doesn't stick out of my chest at all. it sticks out of my side, and one might guess, based upon the point of entry, that it is merely venting the space where my lung used to and currently resides. au contraire, said tube reaches all the way up and snakes its way to my right shoulder area, where it likes to rub me the wrong way when i make sudden moves or try to roll over in the middle of the night. i had an x-ray this morning, to see whether there were still any air pockets remaining (there were). well, the image popped right up on a screen next to me and there was the tube, weaving its merry way through my insides, draining fluid and air quite happily. it was crazy to see for myself. i, of course, know this tube is in me and am intimately familiar with its functions. however, it is still funny to see on an x-ray. it kind of appears as though i've been attacked by your run of the mill garden hose and lived to tell about it.
mark friday down as a good morning for heading to the hospital; little traffic, decent parking, and few crowds in the radiology or surgery departments. i suspect the story will be different on monday morning.
today i am determined to get outside for a walk. enough of this. cabin fever has set in. i was waiting until the tube came out, but i cannot wait until monday. i need some fresh air and wind upon my cheeks.

As a child, I suffered from orthopedic problems that landed me in the antiseptic hands of the medical establishment, so I have some small appreciation of the annoyances involved. I have no experience with the big ol' varmint you're battling, but if good wishes and prayers help at all, you have quite a few coming your way from Myrtle Beach.
Keep strong and be well.
Dave
I am following your progress, and you are in my prayers. As Dave says, you write beautifully. I hope if I am ever faced with what you are going through, that I will face it with a courage and strength like yours. Once again, I have to compliment you on the great photos that give your site the extra touch you wanted.
Keep the faith, Laurie
