glowing in the dark

so, one scan down, one mri to go this weekend. should it concern me that the special juice that i was injected with this morning arrives at the pet scan truck in lead-lined ammo boxes, each dose individually stored in its own lead-lined container? i mean, seriously. they say it is gone from your system in 24-hours but then why is there a sign that says "if you are going to be taking public transportation in the next several days please talk to our receptionist". i can tell you why. i asked. it is, of course, because you continue to glow for "several days" and you need a get out of jail free card in case you make an attempt at normal activities such as boarding an airplane. they have sensors in the airport that are suppsoed to detect radioactive "things" and for the next several days i am one of them. i did not procure a get out of jail free card. i do not plan on frequenting airports in the next several days. good thing.
i do plan on frequenting the chester county hospital, however. in fact, this morning was not quite early enough for me to wake up and i am psyched to get up at 6:45 or so on a sunday to go get an mri at 7:30. i'm counting it also as a visit to church. i'm sure i'll say a couple words to the big guy while i'm in that tube.
i sure did today. they make you lie with your arms outstretched above your head (perhaps i've whined about this before) which is, at first, a comfortable position, but after 30 minutes or so the fun has long subsided and the pain sets in. i tried thinking about happy things and ignoring the pain, which worked for a bit but then i just needed to say it, dear god, let this be over soon. i kep guessing at how much longer i had to endure but i kept guessing wrong. if you don't believe be about the pain, try it yourself. make sure you are on a mostly hard, flat surface. you can have a pillow and something under your knees to prop them up, but that's it. now throw your arms up above your head and lie there for 45 minutes or so. not only does it hurt, but when you finally get up your arms feel like they weight 50 pounds each. and i have skinny arms. i wonder what the bigger ones would feel like.
by the way, what is up with the 60 degree weather? i know, i know, it has been here for weeks, but today i went for a little run and had to take off my hat to regulate the heat i was building up. man, does that damp air feel refreshing on my noggin. looking forward to later this week when the cold air is supposed to move in. no running outside, but that's why i have the trainer.
went for my first real trainer ride this week; thank goodness for ipods. plus, the dog lying there barking at me was entertaining for the first 15 minutes or so. then she gave up.
happy weekend everyone. do what i'm doing - shrugging off writing the last 10 thank you cards, skipping going to the bank, even giving up on transferring photos from one computer to another. relax. have fun. sleep. the cloudy days are so good for that!
