afterword

i had to rush the end of that last post, it was time to eat and dinner was about to go from edible to not, due to the charred nature of the food.

anyway.

a more serious contemplation for the end of my post about points north - a choose your own adventure type post - you can pick the ending you want!

i used to, and admittedly still do, daydream a lot about exploring new places. when i was little i thought i wanted to go find a new place for myself; now i realize there is nearly as much adventure in seeking out places that are merely new to me, not necessarily civilization as a whole. there is such thrill involved, i get that fluttery feeling in my stomach in anticipation of landing in a new airport for a new vacation spot, and the planning, i am a planner by nature and i love laying out the framework for a new adventure. even in my head, all day i develop trips all around the world, what i would see, who might be with me, when we might go, how long we would stay... all of it.

my brother and i, and our friends, when we were little kids we spent all our freetime (or so it seems) playing outside in the "woods", discovering little streams, building forts, having campfires, and generally running wild until we were called for dinner. i have a lot of that energy left in me as an adult.

lucky for me.

my latest adventure pits me against terrain and in countryside otherwise unimaginable unless you can see it for yourself. it can seem like a lonely place, because sometimes no one else around me knows exactly where i am and what landscape i am seeing. but it isn't a desolate place; i am instilled with a new sense of hope thanks to being here, and i have a much clearer understanding of my priorities and passions because i have had to face the worst. i am learning there is something to be said for traveling without an itinerary, and have most certainly learned that no matter what, despite the best planning and packing, i will forget to bring something along.

cancer most definitely sucks. i have a big day tomorrow, but aren't they all big days? i am more relaxed this go-round, for this restaging of my disease. i know i am strong enough.

i've spent a lot of my life up until now wishing for an adventure of epic proportions.
