adding to the quiver

i'll admit to skipping my nap this afternoon in lieu of playing with my new toys. sometimes a girl's got to have priorities.

i have been waiting for weeks for my shiny new g3 t9 all mountain bindings to arrive. my skis arrived long ago, and the waiting has proven to be a great distraction from the melee of the whole cancer thing, especially since chemo round 2. i found out the monday prior to thanksgiving that the bindings were due to ship that wednesday, and i waited and waited (they were coming three-day and i allowed some extra time for the holiday and shipping errors because i am somewhat familiar with them) but they just never came.

where in the world were my beautiful golden and metal playthings?

i did what every rational binding-waiter-uponer does and emailed a friendly customer service gentlemen at g3. i like emailing them, they are located in vancouver, bc and i like to hear about snow conditions and where they get to play outside. this time i couldn't resist. i wanted a chance, if it came up, to ski on them over new years, and at the rate things were going i wasn't sure i would have them. i asked whether they were stuck in customs (likely) and then, contrary to what i ever would have done in the past, i used an appeal to his emotional and human side. i threw a few lines in telling him about my perdicament, having some cancer. maybe not skiing too much this winter. really wanting the chance to get out on the new planks if given the window of opportunity. and you know what?

it worked.

turns out someone in his family is fighting some of the monster cells, and he got the order out and here they are, mounted on my equally-beautiful but not quite as shiny (they have a dull finish) skis. i am one of the happiest kids in the world tonight, and i don't even have snow to play in.

i had a ct scan today, which i am optimistic about. i actually have the images on a disk, but i gave them to Mom to hold for safe keeping. i really don't want to look at them, because i won't really know what i am looking at.

but then again this is the same kid who skipped a nap because she couldn't wait to get her bindings mounted and there is no snow to be had on a decent slope within ten states.

but i will resist the urge, because nothing good can come out of looking at ct scans.

i'll get on a plane in the AM and head to providence, check out some bike racing and hopefully cross paths with some folks i haven't seen in a long time, and also get to see samara for the first time since glacier. should be due for some laughs. i'll say hello to the ocean for you.

smooches. send some snow.
