bicyclotherapy

it is strange to find myself in the "out of shape" grouping. i mean, relative to the majority of the rest of the country, i am probably still in "really good" or "great" shape, but relative to where i was a year, six months, or six weeks ago, i am most definitely in the worst shape i've seen in years.

heeding the advice of a few books about chemo and, more importantly, listening to my own mind's desire to get outside and play, this morning i enjoyed a nice bike ride out in my scenic 'hood. i put about 8 miles under my tires (which have yet to see the glorious mud that cyclocross tires long for - sorry boys) and it really felt great to stretch my legs. i think the goal for this week is a run on thursday, but i have to see how i am feeling. if i feel like i was run over by one of those big earth-moving trucks you see (you know, the ones with tires the size of my apartment) i will bump down to a walk. but my goal is to run and bike ride as often as possible through this thing. just a little bit, just to keep my depleated blood flowing and more importantly, keep my head in the game.

you see, it is very difficult to rebound from a bad day with this illness, and i had one of those days a couple of days ago, and i think that other than do everything in my power to avoid them (ie. not being overtired, napping when needed, thinking good thoughts) i think the endorphins generated while exercising make a huge difference. i am already better today than i've been in a week, and maybe since i am kind of out of shape the endorphin buzz will last longer after shorter bouts of exertion.

we'll see.

in other news, i put my skis in my car today, they have dull edges and a couple of spots in need of p-tex so i will drop them off for their spa treatment and my goal is to get out, even if it is in the meager hills of PA, a few times, so long as it gets cold and stays cold for some snow making adventures at the hills.

i really, really want to ski this winter, even just a couple of times.

i'll be the bald girl ripping the tele turns, falling down laughing and exhausted at the bottom of the bunny slope (can you rip a tele turn on a bunny slope?!)
